About Primus Retail

In 1995, a company named Primus Retail Private Limited was incorporated in Bangalore, India. Operating as a small-format retail chain, it represented a portfolio of lifestyle brands. The company dealt in well-known brands like Nike, Adidas, Levis, and Puma through various store formats, including exclusive brand outlets and factory outlets across numerous cities. One of the key figures in the company was CEO V. Balaji Bhat. A significant move came in 2007 when Primus Retail acquired the youth and children's clothing brand Weekender for approximately Rs 95 crore. This acquisition was a strategic play to expand its product portfolio and solidify its position in the apparel and retail industry. At the time of the deal, Weekender had over 50 stores and an annual business of Rs 45 crore. Primus announced plans to renovate existing stores and add new ones, aiming to more than double the brand's growth within 18 months. However, the company's journey took a different turn. Corporate filings show its last Annual General Meeting was held at the end of 2011. Eventually, Primus Retail Private Limited went into liquidation, marking the end of its ambitious chapter in the Indian retail landscape.
