About Polars

Polars is an Amsterdam open-source DataFrame and OLAP query-engine company started by Ritchie Vink and incorporated with co-founder/CTO Chiel Peters to commercialise a high-performance, multi-threaded Rust engine on Apache Arrow—with consistent APIs in Python, Rust, Node.js and R and a lazy evaluation planner for datasets larger than RAM. The MIT-licensed core library targets data scientists and engineers; the company is building Polars Cloud and distributed offerings while keeping the core open-source. After a $4 million seed led by Bain Capital Ventures in 2023, Polars in September 2025 raised an €18 million (about $21 million) Series A led by Accel with returning BCV to scale the engine and enterprise/cloud products.
