About PodShow

PodShow, later rebranded as Mevio Inc., was an internet entertainment network established in San Francisco, California, in October 2004. The company was co-founded by Adam Curry, a former MTV VJ and a recognized early adopter of podcasting, and his business partner Ron Bloom. Curry, often called the "Podfather" for his pioneering efforts in the medium, brought his media personality and deep understanding of the nascent podcasting world, having co-developed the initial concept and the first client software, iPodder. Bloom, a former CEO of THINK New Ideas, which he took public in 1996, contributed his expertise in business strategy, market positioning, and securing investment. Their collaboration aimed to create a platform to help creators publish and market their podcasts while enabling listeners to discover new content.

PodShow's business model was centered around bridging the gap between mainstream media and user-generated content. The company operated as a podcast promotions and advertising company, encompassing the Podshow Podcast Network, the Podcast Delivery Network, and the Podsafe Music Network. The Podsafe Music Network, launched in August 2005, allowed musicians to upload their music for podcasters to use legally in their shows. To expand its reach and user base, PodShow acquired the podcast directory Podcast Alley in September 2005. The company generated revenue through advertising and partnerships, securing collaborations with major entities like British Telecom and Sirius Satellite Radio. PodShow also offered services for business podcasting. The platform served a wide range of clients, from independent podcast creators to larger media entities, providing them with tools for distribution and monetization. Its audience consisted of podcast listeners looking for a centralized directory and a diverse range of content, including popular shows like Curry's own "Daily Source Code" and "GeekBrief.TV".

The company achieved several significant milestones, including securing substantial venture capital funding. In August 2005, PodShow raised approximately $8.85 million from prominent venture firms Kleiner Perkins, Sequoia Capital, and Sherpalo Ventures. A second round of funding in September 2006 brought in an additional $15 million, led by DAG Ventures. In July 2008, after rebranding to Mevio, the company secured another $15 million in a Series C round. The rebranding to Mevio was part of an evolution to become a broader media company focused on new entertainment across various devices. However, the company faced challenges, including the end of its relationship with Sirius Satellite Radio in 2007. In April 2014, Mevio ceased operations and shut down its service, providing content creators a short window to migrate their data.
