About PodMe

PodMe is a subscription-based podcast platform founded in 2017 by Johan Strömberg and Niklas Julin. It was established to provide a new monetization model for podcast creators beyond traditional advertising and sponsorships, which often left certain genres, like true crime, underfunded.

The company operates on a subscription business model, offering users access to exclusive, ad-free podcast episodes for a monthly fee. This model allows creators to focus on producing high-quality content and receive compensation for their work. The platform features a native app with a customized user experience, and it offers curated content across various genres, including humor, true crime, and conversational podcasts.

PodMe began in Sweden and has since expanded its operations to Norway and Finland. The company has seen significant growth, reporting over 350,000 paying subscribers. The media group Schibsted first invested in Podme in 2019 and increased its stake to 91% in 2021. By March 2025, Schibsted completed the acquisition, making Podme a wholly-owned subsidiary to further integrate it into its media ecosystem.

The founders, Strömberg, who served as CEO for many years, and Julin, who was Head of Development, have been instrumental in the company's growth and transition. They remained involved in the company's development even after Schibsted became the majority shareholder. Podme aims to become a leading player for premium podcasts in the Nordic region, focusing on content, technology, and achieving profitability under Schibsted's ownership.
