Plumerai's core technology is a hybrid approach that combines highly efficient "Tiny AI" models that run on the device with powerful Vision Large Language Models (LLMs) in the cloud. The on-device AI handles initial processing, which is fast, private, and requires minimal power, making it suitable for battery-operated devices and inexpensive chips. This local processing, which includes features like people, vehicle, animal, and package detection, as well as familiar face and stranger identification, significantly reduces false alarms from environmental factors. When more complex analysis is needed, the on-device AI directs the cloud-based Vision LLM, enabling advanced features like AI Video Search and AI Captions, which provide natural language descriptions of video events. This two-tiered system is designed to be more accurate and up to 135 times more cost-efficient in terms of cloud costs compared to cloud-only solutions.

Initially focused on the smart home security market, Plumerai's technology is used in millions of devices worldwide, with major customers including the Chamberlain Group, whose products are in over 50 million homes. The company is now expanding its reach into enterprise security, smart retail, elderly care, and other IoT sectors.
