PlayNitride, a Taiwan-based company founded in 2014, specializes in the design, development, and sale of MicroLED display technology. The company was established by Dr. Yun-Li (Charles) Li and his partners with the goal of revolutionizing the nitride semiconductor industry. Dr. Li, who serves as Chairman and CEO, earned his Ph.D. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where his work focused on GaN-based LEDs, a background that directly informs the company's trajectory. In recognition of his contributions to the development and commercialization of MicroLED technology, Dr. Li received the Special Recognition Award from the Society for Information Display (SID) in 2020.

The company's business model is centered on providing proprietary MicroLED products and solutions. Its main offerings are Chip-on-Carrier (COC) technology and finished MicroLED displays. The COC technology facilitates the mass transfer of microscopic LED chips onto a carrier, which can then be used by display manufacturers to produce screens. This approach allows PlayNitride to serve a diverse client base, including major display manufacturers and well-known brand system providers in Taiwan, Korea, and Japan. PlayNitride's core product is its PixeLED® display technology, which is engineered to deliver high brightness, high contrast, low power consumption, and fast response times. The company has developed several proprietary solutions based on this technology, including PixeLED Display for transparent and flexible applications, modular PixeLED Matrix for large-scale tiled displays, and µ-PixeLED for ultra-high-resolution micro-displays used in AR glasses. A key technological innovation is the company's "Selective Mass Addressable Repair Technology" (SMAR·Tech), a process designed to efficiently repair defective pixels during manufacturing.
