The story begins not with a single startup, but with an established industrial service provider, ETABO, founded back in 1974. For decades, it built a reputation in plant construction and services, particularly for power plants and industrial facilities in Germany. The company specialized in the essential, complex work of engineering, pipeline construction, and maintenance for heavy industry. A new chapter began when Ludger Kramer founded Plant Systems & Services (PSS) GmbH as a holding company based in Bochum. The strategy was clear: acquire and support specialized service companies operating in the process and energy sectors. PSS was created to be a strategic parent, providing financial backing and operational guidance to its subsidiaries, allowing them to grow. The most significant event in this journey was the acquisition of the Veltec Group in November 2018. This wasn't just another bolt-on; it was a transformative move. By acquiring Veltec, a major European technical maintenance provider, PSS dramatically expanded its footprint across Central and Northern Europe. The deal brought the total group workforce to approximately 1,250 employees and combined ETABO's engineering expertise with Veltec's on-site presence, creating a much stronger, more comprehensive service offering for the entire energy and process industry.
