With a blank sheet of paper, core founders Terry Turner, Rob McCabe, and Hugh Queener designed the bank they would want for themselves—one focused on people and local decision-making. Pinnacle Financial Partners launched in Nashville, Tennessee, with a clear strategy: hire the most experienced bankers who would bring their clients with them. Their vision was twofold: to be the best financial services firm and the best place to work in the Southeast. This focus on culture was not just a talking point; it was the central pillar of their business model, believing that happy associates deliver superior client service. Just two years after its founding, the company went public on the NASDAQ in May 2002, securing capital for its growth. This event marked the beginning of a steady expansion. A key moment in their journey was the 2017 acquisition of BNC Bancorp, which significantly expanded their footprint into the Carolinas and Virginia. More recently, in July 2025, Pinnacle announced a transformative merger with Synovus, an all-stock deal valued at $8.6 billion, positioning the combined entity as a major player in the U.S. financial landscape.
