Established in November 2011 by founder Chris Blank, Pharmacity has grown into a major player in Vietnam's pharmaceutical retail market. Blank, an American with Vietnamese heritage, identified a gap in the market for a modern, trustworthy pharmacy chain after a personal experience left him frustrated with the existing options. His background in finance proved instrumental in scaling the business, which started with a single store and a vision to professionalize the pharmacy experience in Vietnam.

The company operates a network of physical drugstores and an e-commerce platform, serving the general public across Vietnam. Its business model focuses on providing a wide assortment of goods in a modern retail format, generating revenue through the direct sale of products. The product portfolio is extensive, including prescription and over-the-counter medications, health supplements, personal care items, and medical supplies. Pharmacity also develops and sells its own private-label products, which are priced competitively against national brands.

Pharmacity has attracted significant investment to fuel its expansion. Key funding milestones include a Series C round in 2020 and substantial investments from private equity firm Mekong Capital and South Korea's SK Group. This capital has supported the rapid growth of its store network and the development of its digital infrastructure. The company has also introduced customer-centric initiatives like a loyalty program and Vietnam's first pharmacy subscription model, which offers discounts on wellness products to enhance customer retention and medication adherence. After a period of aggressive expansion, the company has undergone restructuring to optimize operations, which included leadership changes with Deepanshu Madan taking over as CEO. Founder Chris Blank departed from his role and has since launched a new pharmacy system named Phuong Hoang.
