Phantom Galaxies

The game is the creation of Blowfish Studios, a Sydney-based developer and publisher founded in 2008 by Benjamin Lee and Aaron Grove. Lee, with a background in computer systems engineering and 3D graphics, serves as Managing Director, while Grove, an award-winning visual effects supervisor, is the Creative Director. Blowfish Studios started by developing games for the iOS App Store and grew into a multiplatform developer and publisher. In July 2021, the studio was acquired by Animoca Brands, a company specializing in blockchain gaming and digital entertainment, for approximately US$6.6 million upfront with potential performance-based payments. This acquisition was intended to merge Blowfish's game development expertise with Animoca's blockchain capabilities.

Phantom Galaxies integrates optional blockchain elements, operating on the Polygon network. Players can own in-game assets such as starfighters, avatars, and even planets as NFTs, allowing for true digital ownership and trading in the game's marketplace. The business model is free-to-play, but the company generates revenue through these NFT sales and in-game item purchases. A private sale of planet NFTs in May 2022 raised US$19.3 million from investors including Sequoia China, Polygon Ventures, and Dapper Labs. The game offers various gameplay modes, including a main story campaign, side quests, multiplayer PvP battles, and PvE bounties. Players can choose from four distinct starfighter classes (Assault, Lancer, Buster, and Breacher) and customize them with a wide range of weapons and gear.
