PGP TrustCenter emerged as a distinct division following the acquisition of German-based TC TrustCenter and its U.S. parent company, ChosenSecurity, by PGP Corporation in February 2010. This strategic acquisition was aimed at integrating managed trusted identities with PGP Corporation's core data protection and encryption services. Dr. Sabine Kockskamper was a co-founder and Managing Director of TC TrustCenter prior to the acquisition. The original creator of the Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) software in 1991 is Phil Zimmermann, a computer scientist and cryptographer who founded PGP Inc. after a period of legal challenges related to encryption export regulations. PGP Corporation itself was co-founded in June 2002 by Jon Callas and Phil Dunkelberger.

The formation of the PGP TrustCenter division enabled the company to offer a comprehensive platform for managing trusted digital identities, crucial for secure electronic transactions. The business provides an on-demand, software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform for issuing and managing identities used for encryption, authentication, and secure collaboration.
