Peribit Networks
A range of wan optimization solutions
About Peribit Networks
Peribit Networks, founded in 2000 by Balraj Singh, specialized in Wide Area Network (WAN) optimization before its acquisition. The company was established to address the technical limitations of WANs, focusing on improving application performance and increasing network capacity for enterprise clients.
The firm developed a suite of platforms and software, including the Peribit Sequence Reducer and Sequence Mirror, managed by the PeriScope Central Management System. Its core technology, known as Molecular Sequence Reduction (MSR), applied principles from computational molecular biology to identify and eliminate redundant data traveling across a WAN. This process was designed to increase usable bandwidth, accelerate application delivery, and provide system-wide visibility into network performance. The technology was particularly beneficial for corporations with distributed branch offices, enabling remote workers to access centralized data at speeds comparable to local networks.
Operating from Santa Clara, California, Peribit Networks targeted enterprise customers, including a significant number of Fortune 1000 firms in sectors like finance and oil & gas. The company's business model revolved around selling its WAN optimization appliances and integrated software solutions. By 2005, Peribit had installed its products in over 900 enterprise customer sites worldwide. The company secured a total of $35.5 million in funding over two rounds from investors including Accel, Mayfield, Harmony Partners, and WK Technology Fund. A major milestone in the company's history was its acquisition by Juniper Networks on April 26, 2005, for approximately $337 million. Following the acquisition, Peribit's technology and team were integrated into a new Application Products Group within Juniper.
