Pelipod Ltd, founded in 2013 by Karl Wills, developed an internet-connected, secure locker box for parcel deliveries and collections. The system utilizes Machine-to-Machine (M2M) technology and a central control system to grant access via unique codes, providing a full audit trail for every transaction, including photographic evidence of the contents. This addresses the last-mile delivery challenge for both business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) markets.

The company's primary product is a stand-alone, autonomous parcel box that does not require an external power source or Wi-Fi connection. It was designed to serve individual consumers for online shopping deliveries as well as commercial clients in sectors like utilities, healthcare, and heavy machinery for managing parts and equipment for field engineers. The business model included an initial purchase or rental of the unit combined with an ongoing monthly service fee.

In September 2016, just over three years after its founding, Pelipod was acquired by British Telecommunications (BT) to be part of its Wholesale and Ventures division. BT deployed the lockers, branded as the Final Mile network, to streamline its own supply chain by creating a network of secure locations for its engineers to collect spare parts, thereby reducing travel time and improving inventory management. Under BT, Pelipod continued to serve its external clients. In early 2023, BT agreed to sell Pelipod to ByBox, a global field inventory management provider, a deal which received regulatory approval in May 2023. This transaction aimed to merge Pelipod's network of over 5,000 lockers with ByBox's extensive existing network.
