The company was established in 2019 by co-founders Eric Baum, a former prosecutor, his brother Bryan Baum, a tech entrepreneur, and technologist Tomas Scavnicky. The initial concept was born from Eric Baum's frustration with the antiquated and costly processes of traditional court reporting. In 2021, Aaron O'Brien, who has a background in product management at Uber and Facebook and as Global Head of Trucking at Flexport, was brought on as CEO to scale the company.

The firm's business model centers on streamlining the entire deposition workflow for its clients, which include law firms, insurance carriers, and corporate legal departments. Parrot addresses the significant delays and costs associated with traditional deposition transcription, which can often take days or weeks. By utilizing proprietary large language models trained specifically on legal and insurance terminology, the platform delivers highly accurate, searchable transcripts almost immediately after a deposition concludes. This service is delivered through a cloud-based platform that securely stores a comprehensive archive of deposition materials, including transcripts, video and audio recordings, and exhibits, all of which are AES-256 bit encrypted and compliant with SOC 2 and HIPAA standards.

Parrot's core service is its AI-powered transcription, which modernizes the process from scheduling to analysis. Users can book depositions with a single click, and the platform provides real-time transcription synched with audio and video playback. A key feature is the AI-generated deposition summary, which can produce cohesive overviews in seconds, allowing legal professionals to quickly surface key insights. The platform also facilitates the creation of video clips from depositions and enables collaboration on exhibits. In April 2025, Parrot was acquired by Filevine, a legal work platform, to further integrate these advanced deposition tools into a comprehensive legal tech ecosystem. The company has raised a total of $14 million, with an $11 million Series A round in June 2023 co-led by Amplify Partners and XYZ Venture Capital.
