PACT is a UK-based biotechnology firm developing sustainable biomaterials as alternatives to traditional textiles for industries such as fashion, footwear, interiors, and automotive. The company was founded in 2020 by Dr. Yudí Ding (CEO) and Niels Ramay (COO). The idea originated from Dr. Ding's PhD research in Organic and Protein Chemistry at the University of Cambridge, where he explored creating biomaterials from natural proteins. Dr. Ding previously worked in manufacturing and R&D for L'Oréal and Johnson & Johnson. Ramay has a background in physics, engineering, and M&A advisory. The company's flagship product is Oval, a supple, plastic-free biomaterial made from cosmetic-grade natural collagen, enriched with natural oils, herbal extracts, and minerals. This material is designed to offer the aesthetic and performance qualities of heritage materials like leather, including suppleness, strength, and durability, while being a more sustainable option. PACT's patented process transforms surplus collagen into customizable skins that can be adapted for color, texture, and pattern, and are compatible with traditional manufacturing techniques like sewing, skiving, and edge painting. The production process for Oval is chemical-free and uses significantly less water than traditional textiles. PACT operates on a business-to-business model, partnering with global brands and luxury fashion houses to integrate Oval into their product lines. The company provides a drop-in solution that can be integrated into existing manufacturing infrastructures for roll-to-roll production. The company aims to help its partners meet evolving ESG legislation and sustainability demands from consumers. The company has secured significant funding to scale its operations. After an initial funding round in 2020, PACT raised £9 million in a seed round in September 2024. In November 2025, the company secured approximately $20 million in a Series A round co-led by Forbion's BioEconomy Fund and HV Capital. This funding is being used to advance large-scale production at its newly commissioned 13,820-square-foot headquarters and pilot line in Cambridge, England, enabling the delivery of commercial volumes to its partners.
