The primary market for PacketHop's initial software releases was public safety and homeland security agencies. Its wireless multimedia technology facilitated the deployment of broadband video networks for surveillance, providing security personnel with video access to manage incidents. The company also targeted corporations, other government organizations, and individual consumers. The business was based in Redwood City, California.
By August 2005, the company had raised a total of $25 million in venture capital from investors including GF Private Equity Group, U.S. Venture Partners, Mayfield, and ComVentures. Michael Howse served as the company's president and CEO. In July 2007, PacketHop was acquired by The Comtek Group through a merger.
