Oxwash is a UK-based sustainable laundry and wet-cleaning startup aiming to achieve net-zero carbon emissions in the laundry industry. It was founded in 2017 by Dr. Kyle Grant, a former NASA scientist, and Tom de Wilton, an Oxford engineer. The idea originated from Grant's frustration with the unreliable washing machines at the University of Oxford while completing his PhD in Synthetic Biology. What began with Grant collecting and washing clothes for fellow students with a bike and a backpack quickly grew into a commercial venture.

The company has re-engineered the traditional laundry process by integrating space-age technology and a focus on sustainability. Oxwash utilizes ozone sterilization, which allows for washing at lower temperatures, achieving medical-grade disinfection while reducing energy consumption. Its processes include water reclamation systems that save a significant percentage of water compared to conventional washing, microfiber filtration to capture plastic shed from clothes, and the use of biodegradable detergents. The company's business model is built on a tech-enabled, hyper-local platform where customers can schedule collections and deliveries online. Logistics are handled by a fleet of electric cargo bikes and electric vans to ensure a zero-emission footprint.

Initially serving both individual consumers and businesses, Oxwash has since shifted its focus exclusively to the commercial sector in April 2023. The company determined it could make a more substantial environmental impact by servicing commercial clients such as those in the healthcare, hospitality, and fashion industries. Its client roster includes the NHS, Marriott Hotel Group, and the fashion rental service Hurr Collective. Oxwash operates from processing facilities, known as 'lagoons,' in several UK cities, including Oxford, London, and Cambridge. The company has received significant investment from notable backers including Twitter co-founder Biz Stone, Indeed founder Paul Forster, and venture capital firms like Founders Factory and Untitled VC, raising a total of £15.7 million to date. Oxwash is a certified B Corporation, recognized for its high standards of social and environmental performance and transparency.
