Oxford Immunotec

Oxford Immunotec was a global diagnostics company that commercialized proprietary tests for immune-regulated conditions. Founded in 2002 as a spin-out from the University of Oxford by Dr. Peter Wrighton-Smith, the company focused on its T-SPOT technology platform. This platform measures the response of T-cells to specific antigens to diagnose various diseases.

The company's main product was the T-SPOT.TB test, an advanced blood test for diagnosing active and latent tuberculosis infection. This test offered higher sensitivity compared to traditional methods and was approved for sale in over 50 countries. The business model was based on selling these diagnostic test kits and offering laboratory services to process them. The company also expanded into tests for the transplantation market and tick-borne diseases.

After several rounds of venture capital funding, Oxford Immunotec went public on the NASDAQ in 2013. In January 2021, PerkinElmer announced its acquisition of Oxford Immunotec for approximately $591 million, which was finalized in March 2021. Subsequently, in May 2023, the life sciences and diagnostics businesses of PerkinElmer were rebranded as Revvity, and Oxford Immunotec's operations are now part of Revvity's portfolio.
