The company was founded in 2012 by Professor Lionel Tarassenko as a spin-out from the University of Oxford's Institute of Biomedical Engineering. Tarassenko, a leading expert in applying signal processing and machine learning to healthcare, aimed to create a system that could measure vital signs like pulse and breathing rates without physical contact.

The company's core product is the Oxevision platform, which operates on a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model. It uses secure, contact-free optical sensors, including infrared-sensitive cameras, to monitor patients' vital signs and activities 24/7. This technology provides clinicians with real-time data, alerts, and reports, enabling them to proactively intervene to prevent incidents such as falls, assaults, and self-harm. Its clients primarily consist of healthcare providers, with a significant presence in the UK's National Health Service (NHS), where it partners with about half of the country's mental health providers. The company is also expanding its operations in Europe and the United States, having received FDA De Novo clearance in 2021, which created a new category for vision-based patient monitoring and management. The company's CEO is Todd Haedrich, who succeeded Hugh Lloyd-Jukes.
