About OX Delivers

OX Delivers is a technology-driven logistics company, founded in 2020 by Simon Davis and Natalie Dowsett, providing on-demand transport services in emerging markets. The company's origins trace back to a concept from philanthropist Sir Torquil Norman and Formula 1 designer Gordon Murray, who aimed to create a simple, flat-pack truck for developing countries. Recognizing that vehicle ownership was unaffordable for many, the business model evolved from selling vehicles to offering a pay-as-you-go Transport-as-a-Service (TaaS).

The company launched its pilot operations in Rwanda in March 2021, initially focusing on transporting goods like coffee for smallholder farmers and traders. Clients, who previously relied on bicycles or foot travel, can book space on a truck via a mobile app or a toll-free number, paying on a kilogram-per-kilometer basis. This model significantly reduces transport time and costs, enabling entrepreneurs to access larger markets and increase their income. By late 2024, OX Delivers was serving over 5,000 customers in Rwanda, with a high rate of repeat business.

At the core of the service is the purpose-built, all-terrain electric OX truck. Engineered for the rough roads of the Global South, the truck is designed to be shipped as a flat-pack (Completely Knocked Down) and assembled in-country, which lowers costs. The vehicle features a two-tonne payload and is reported to have operating costs ten times lower than diesel alternatives. A proprietary digital platform optimizes routing and truck utilization. The company has secured approximately $10 million in equity and has also received significant grant funding from entities like Innovate UK, the Advanced Propulsion Centre, and USAID. Following its success in Rwanda, OX Delivers is expanding across East Africa through franchise partnerships, with plans to enter markets in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Burundi.
