About Oversi

Oversi Networks, founded in 2004 by Eitan Efron and Ofer Wald, established itself as a specialized provider of rich-media caching and content delivery solutions before its acquisition. The company was headquartered in Petah Tikva, Israel, a hub for technological development.

The firm focused on alleviating network congestion for service providers caused by the significant growth in internet video and peer-to-peer (P2P) traffic. Oversi's core technology involved identifying popular video and P2P content and caching it at the network's edge, closer to the subscriber. This process resulted in substantial bandwidth savings for the provider and, crucially, a marked improvement in the Quality of Experience (QoE) for the end-user by minimizing delays and buffering. By enhancing QoE, Oversi's platform enabled its clients—fixed and mobile service providers—to create tiered service levels at different price points, thereby increasing their average revenue per user (ARPU).

The company's journey includes securing significant funding to fuel its growth. Oversi raised a total of $12.9 million over two rounds. The first round in June 2007 brought in $8 million from investors including Viola Ventures and StageOne Ventures. A subsequent Series A round in October 2010 added $4.9 million, with participation from Cisco Investments, Smac Partners, Viola Ventures, and StageOne Ventures. A notable collaboration in its history was with BitTorrent, Inc. in 2008, working on protocols to help peers find local nodes more efficiently, which aimed to improve download speeds while reducing the load on ISP networks. This culminated in the acquisition of Oversi by Allot Communications (NASDAQ: ALLT) on July 31, 2012. The deal was valued at approximately $21 million, with $16 million paid in cash and up to $5 million contingent on performance. The acquisition was a strategic move for Allot to integrate Oversi's video caching and acceleration technology into its own Allot Service Gateway platform, creating a more comprehensive solution for managing and monetizing the escalating volume of over-the-top (OTT) video traffic.
