Oryon Cell Therapies is a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing autologous cell therapies for neurodegenerative disorders, with an initial focus on Parkinson's disease. The company was co-founded in 2020 by Ole Isacson, M.D., Ph.D., and Nikola Kojic, M.D., Ph.D. Based in Belmont, Massachusetts, Oryon emerged from stealth in March 2026 with $42 million in total funding from equity and grants. This included a $21 million Series A tranche with investors such as Neuro.VC and Byers Capital.

The company's core technology is a neuron replacement therapy derived from a patient's own blood cells. These cells are transformed into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and then, using proprietary methods, are differentiated into the specific type of dopaminergic neurons that are lost in Parkinson's disease. These fully developed neurons are then implanted directly into the putamen, a brain region heavily implicated in the motor symptoms of Parkinson's. Because the therapy is autologous, meaning it uses the patient's own cells, it avoids the need for the chronic immune suppression typically required for transplants from other donors.

The scientific foundation for Oryon's approach stems from 30 years of research in stem cell biology and neurosurgical techniques at institutions like Harvard University and Mass General Brigham. Co-founder Ole Isacson is the Founding Director of the Neuroregeneration Research Institute at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School. In March 2026, the company appointed Ron Cohen, M.D., as its Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Cohen previously founded and led Acorda Therapeutics, a company that successfully developed and commercialized therapies for nervous system disorders, including Parkinson's disease.

Oryon is currently conducting a Phase 1b/2a clinical trial for its lead program. Early data presented at the AD/PD™ 2026 International Conference showed that the therapy was well-tolerated and resulted in motor improvements and neuroimaging evidence of restored dopaminergic signaling in participants who received unilateral implants. The current funding is intended to support the completion of this trial, scale up manufacturing, and prepare for a potential Phase 3 trial.
