Laser wireless power beaming for satellites and lunar assets
About ORiS
ORiS (Orbital Recharge in Space) is a Turin deep-tech startup developing laser-based wireless power transmission so satellites and dual-use platforms can recharge client spacecraft, drones or lunar surface assets via high-power optical links aimed at existing solar panels—without retrofits. Founded in 2024 by Politecnico di Torino engineers Andrea Villa (CEO), Anna Mauro (CTO), Domenico Edoardo Sfasciamuro (CCO) and Francesco Lopez (COO), with guidance from Prof. Stefano Mauro, and supported by I3P, ESA BIC Turin and the CDP/Galaxia ecosystem, ORiS is building toward an in-orbit energy distribution grid and a 2027 satellite-to-satellite demonstration with DCUBED (ARAQYS-D3). Its LOONA prototype has beamed power to a hovering drone at over 100 metres within NATO DIANA. In July 2026 ORiS closed a €4.5 million pre-seed led by Earlybird and co-led by Pitchdrive, with Galaxia, Vento and Piemonte Next Fund, plus a separate €0.5 million Piedmont Region grant—€5 million ($5.7 million) combined—to expand the technical team, labs/clean rooms and flight-model development; keep the regional grant distinct from equity.
