OQO makes ultra-mobile, Windows-operation personal computers
About OQO
OQO, an early entrant in the ultra-mobile personal computing space, was established in 2000. The company was founded by Jory Bell and Jonathan Betts-LaCroix, along with Andrew Popell, Michael Prichard, Nick Merz, and Robert Ford. Their objective was to condense the functionality of a Windows XP personal computer into a device small enough to fit in a pocket, aiming to reshape personal computing in a manner similar to how mobile phones transformed telecommunications.

The San Francisco-based company presented its initial proof of concept at WinHEC in 2002. It later introduced its first commercial product, the OQO model 01, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in 2004. A subsequent version, the model 01+, was recognized by Guinness World Records as the smallest full-featured personal computer at the time. OQO targeted mobile professionals who required full computing capabilities while on the move, generating revenue through the direct sale of its hardware devices.
OQO's product line evolved to include the model 2+, which incorporated an Intel Atom processor, the world's first PC OLED display, and global 3G connectivity through Qualcomm’s Gobi solution. This device featured a 1.86GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, and an integrated touchscreen for input. The company's development process integrated engineering, sales, marketing, and operations to advance PC architecture with a focus on functionality, usability, and design aesthetics for the mobile enterprise market.
