OPTIO LABS - Mobile Malware Protection Security Apps
About Optio Labs
Optio Labs, founded in 2012, operated in the mobile security sector, providing solutions designed to protect against a range of digital threats. The company was established by a team of scientists from Virginia Tech: Dr. Charles Clancy, Dr. Brian Dougherty, and Dr. Jules White. Their technical background, originating from a university research environment, formed the foundation of the company's focus on mobile security technologies.
The firm's business centered on developing security technologies for mobile and embedded systems. It targeted clients such as federal government agencies, mobile original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), wireless carriers, and commercial enterprises. As a subsidiary of Allied Minds, a science and technology commercialization company, Optio Labs was formed to productize technologies developed at U.S. universities and federal research institutions. A significant financial milestone was achieved on March 6, 2014, when the company secured $10 million in a Series A funding round from its parent company, Allied Minds Federal Innovations, and other private investors. This capital was intended to expand engineering capacity and speed up the development of its security solutions.
Optio Labs developed a suite of products to address mobile security challenges. Its flagship product, OptioCore, was a policy engine for mobile devices that provided context-based protection against security threats and was designed to meet U.S. Federal government mobile security policies. Another key offering was OptioInsight, an analytics platform for mobile security threats. The company also provided OptioServices for technology integration and OptioAware, a product aimed at preventing eavesdropping and detecting insider threats. In a strategic move to enhance its capabilities, Optio Labs acquired Oculis Labs on April 8, 2015. Despite its product development and funding, the company is reported to have ceased operations around May 2017.
