The platform's inception traces back to 2017, stemming from the work of Dr. Ronald Ashri and a team of conversational AI experts who recognized the limitations of existing technologies. The formal company, OpenDialog AI Ltd, was established in London in 2022. This formation brought together Dr. Ashri with Terry Walby and Dean Chapman, two entrepreneurs with a successful history in the automation software sector. Walby, now CEO, previously founded Thoughtonomy, which was acquired by Blue Prism for $100 million in 2019. Chapman, the CCO, was also part of the Thoughtonomy leadership team. This founding team combined their experience to commercialize and scale the OpenDialog technology. The company secured $5 million in seed funding in May 2022 and later raised an $8 million Series A round in January 2024, bringing its total funding to $13 million.

Opendialog.ai's platform enables businesses to automate complex, multi-step processes through natural language conversations. A key differentiator is its focus on safety, transparency, and compliance, which is critical for its target market. The system provides explainable and auditable AI interactions by combining the capabilities of large language models (LLMs) with structured, auditable frameworks. Features include a no-code conversation designer, the ability to integrate with existing business systems via APIs, and support for Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to allow the AI to use an organization's own documents as a knowledge base. Use cases range from automating customer support and insurance claims processing to triaging eligibility for legal class-action lawsuits and supporting patient engagement in healthcare. For one insurance client, the platform automated nine out of ten tasks, including selling personalized policies.
