OneAccess, founded in 2001, established itself as a provider of physical and virtual network functions, enabling telecommunications carriers and IP service providers to deliver managed services to their business clients. The company specialized in creating software and hardware platforms, including multi-service access routers and Ethernet access devices, designed to support services like Internet, Voice over IP, and cloud applications for small, medium, and large enterprises.

The company's product portfolio was developed to address carrier requirements for Layers 2 and 3 of the network, focusing on routing and IP services with a strong software foundation. This strategy allowed OneAccess to build a significant customer base, counting nearly 130 telecom carriers as clients, including 29 of the world's top 100. A significant milestone in the company's history was its acquisition by Ekinops, a supplier of optical transport equipment, in a deal completed in October 2017. This strategic combination created a more substantial entity in the telecommunications market, addressing transport, Ethernet, and corporate routing solutions. The acquisition was valued at approximately €58 million and aimed to leverage the complementary strengths of both companies. OneAccess had a strong foothold with major telecom operators, while Ekinops primarily served second-tier carriers, presenting opportunities for commercial synergies with minimal customer overlap. The merger was driven by key industry trends, including the move towards Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and the need to manage exponential growth in internet traffic.
