The story of Oesia Group begins not with a single startup, but with the convergence of established capabilities. In 2000, a group of professors from the University of Deusto founded IT Deusto, a firm focused on tech solutions. This entity would become a core part of what is now Oesia Group. The modern structure, however, was significantly shaped under the leadership of Chairman and CEO Luis Furnells, who took the helm in 2012. The company’s playbook focused on building a dual-use technology powerhouse, serving both civil and military sectors. A pivotal moment came in 2008 with the acquisition of Tecnobit, a company with roots in aerospace and defense dating back to 1976. This move firmly established Oesia in the high-stakes world of defense electronics, providing everything from avionics displays for fighter jets to tactical communication systems. Instead of a single IPO, Oesia’s journey is marked by a series of strategic acquisitions and a significant internal ownership shift. In 2016, the company entered a new phase with new shareholders and a management-led buyout, which saw Furnells and his team take control. This solidified their strategy of growth through hyper-specialization, creating distinct brands for key technologies. A string of acquisitions followed, including UAV Navigation in 2021 for drone control systems and INSTER in 2022 for satellite communications, further deepening their expertise and market reach.
