Odimo, founded in 2015 by Amy Slattery in Kansas City, operated as an architecture and interior design practice before rebranding as SLATTERY Design + Architecture. The firm was established with the goal of creating a new business model for architectural practice that combines high-quality design with dedicated client service, acting as a strategic partner to its clients. The name Odimo, meaning "to navigate," reflects the firm's approach of guiding clients through the complexities of design and construction.

Amy Slattery founded the firm to build a team of leaders dedicated to serving clients and to prove that a small practice could deliver both excellent service and design. Her vision was to challenge the traditional architectural model by focusing on client goals and business needs as the foundation for design work. A significant milestone occurred when her spouse, Sean Slattery, a seasoned architect with over two decades of experience and numerous design awards, joined the firm, leading to its evolution into SLATTERY Design + Architecture. This partnership combines their complementary skills in design and client service.

The firm serves a diverse client base across several markets, including higher education, affordable multifamily housing, commercial offices, and non-profits. It operates on the philosophy of "Design Excellence is for Everyone," aiming to bring quality design to communities and users who may not typically have access to it. Rather than simply providing technical drawings, the company engages with clients early in the process to define their spatial needs in alignment with their business objectives. This business model has led to consistent growth and recognition, including being named the AIA Kansas City Architecture Firm of the Year in 2019.
