Creates connections to promote a circular economy in the vehicle recycling sector, creating the bridge between people or companies
About Octa
Octa is a Brazilian company addressing the automotive circular economy by formalizing and digitizing the vehicle dismantling and used parts market. Founded in December 2020 by Arthur Rufino and Daniel Oelsner Lopes, the startup emerged from the intersection of deep industry expertise and venture building. Rufino, the company's CEO, brings a legacy from his family's business, JR Diesel, one of Latin America's largest vehicle dismantling and recycling companies. His journey involved evolving his father's 36-year-old business, leading to a profound understanding of the market's challenges and the potential for a regulated, scalable model. Lopes is a partner at the venture builder Fisher, which collaborated in Octa's creation.
The company operates a digital ecosystem that connects fleet owners, vehicle dismantling centers (CDVs), and parts buyers. For clients with large vehicle fleets, such as Enel and Mobi Brasil, Octa provides a solution for disposing of end-of-life vehicles, transforming a logistical problem into a revenue source. These vehicles are then made available to a network of over 300 registered dismantling centers, which can source vehicles legally and efficiently. The core of the business is a B2B marketplace. It facilitates the sale of vehicles for disassembly and is developing a platform for selling certified, reused parts back to fleet owners and repair shops, which can lead to maintenance cost savings of up to 70%. This model targets a market with an estimated potential of R$40 billion annually in Brazil, a sector that is currently operating at only about 10% of its capacity due to informality and illegal activities.
By creating a transparent and efficient channel for used auto parts, Octa aims to reduce vehicle theft driven by the illegal parts trade and promote significant environmental benefits, including CO2 emission reduction. The company's platform generated over R$2 million in transactions in its first six months. Octa secured R$1 million in a pre-seed round from angel investors in 2021, followed by a R$8 million seed round led by Vox Capital. It was also selected for the Google for Startups Black Founders Fund, an initiative that provides capital to startups led by Black entrepreneurs.
