Nubee
Singapore-based game development studio focused on developing next-generation social games
About Nubee
Nubee Pte. Ltd. was a Singapore-based mobile game development studio established in November 2010. The company operated as a subsidiary of Vega Corporation, a Japanese e-commerce firm specializing in furniture. The CEO of both Nubee and Vega Corporation was Tomokazu Ukishiro. Nubee focused on creating free-to-play social games for smart devices, targeting a global audience with a particular emphasis on the Asian market.
The studio achieved rapid growth and reported profitability by August 2011. A significant milestone was securing approximately US$13 million in funding from JAFCO, a major Japanese venture capital firm, in October 2011. This investment was intended to scale operations and double its staff of 60 within six months. Nubee's portfolio included titles such as "Japan Life," which amassed 2.5 million downloads within two and a half months of its July 2011 launch, and several coin-themed games like "Coin Pirates," "Coins vs Zombies," and "Coins vs Aliens." By August 2014, the company's total app downloads surpassed 50 million.
In January 2012, Nubee established a Japanese subsidiary, Nubee Tokyo, to focus on the Japanese market. Eventually, the Singaporean operations were closed, and the headquarters and development functions were consolidated into the Tokyo office. However, due to a lack of subsequent hit games, Nubee Tokyo was dissolved by its parent company, Vega Corporation, in January 2016. The company's remaining games were either shut down or transferred to other companies. The Singaporean entity, Nubee Pte. Ltd., is now officially listed as dissolved.
