NextBio's platform was designed to help researchers in the life sciences, including those in pharmaceutical companies and academia, to make better use of the vast amounts of data being generated in the field. This allowed researchers to search for information across all of these sources in a single place, and to use the platform's analytical tools to identify trends and patterns in the data.
In 2013, NextBio was acquired by Illumina, a leading provider of DNA sequencing and other life science technologies. The acquisition was seen as a way for Illumina to strengthen its position in the growing market for bioinformatics and data analysis tools.
