Neuro3d
Neuro3d, a biopharmaceutical startup, focuses on virtual treatment and drug development for mental and behavioral disorders
About Neuro3d
Neuro3D SA was a biotechnology firm established in 2000 with a focus on central nervous system (CNS) disorders. The company's operations were centered in Mulhouse, France, where it dedicated its resources to discovering and advancing treatments for conditions such as schizophrenia, depression, and anxiety.
The company's business strategy involved advancing promising compounds through early-stage clinical trials, up to Phase II. Upon reaching this milestone, Neuro3D would then offer pharmaceutical partners the opportunity to license the compounds for further development and commercialization. This model was complemented by the acquisition of Neurofit SA, a French contract research organization, in May 2003. This acquisition brought in-house preclinical research and development capabilities and an existing client base that included major pharmaceutical companies for services related to peripheral nervous system disorders and pain.
Neuro3D's primary therapeutic candidate was ocaperidone, an atypical anti-psychotic for treating schizophrenia, which was in Phase I trials in 2003. The company had a licensing option agreement with Janssen Pharmaceutica N.V., a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, for this compound.
The company successfully secured venture capital funding, with an initial round of $3.41 million in November 2000, followed by subsequent funding rounds. Investors included Apax Partners, Ardian, Gilde Healthcare, and Gimv. After several years of operation and development, Neuro3D was acquired by Evotec on April 1, 2007, for approximately $28.8 million.
