About Network Ten

Network Ten is a major Australian commercial television network, currently operating as a subsidiary of Paramount Networks UK & Australia, a division of Paramount Skydance. The network's journey began on August 1, 1964, with the launch of ATV-0 in Melbourne, owned by Ansett Transport Industries. It was soon followed by TEN-10 in Sydney in April 1965. Initially known as the Independent Television System, it was rebranded as the 0-10 Network in 1970, reflecting the channel numbers of its first two stations. The network officially became Network Ten in 1980 after ATV-0 moved to the channel 10 frequency.

Network Ten's history is marked by several ownership changes and financial challenges. Media mogul Rupert Murdoch gained control in the late 1970s but had to sell in 1985 due to changes in Australian media laws. The late 1980s and early 1990s were turbulent, leading to receivership in 1990 and liquidation in 1991. In 1992, Canadian-based Canwest acquired a controlling stake, shifting the network's focus towards a younger audience. This strategy proved successful in the 2000s with the launch of popular reality shows like *Big Brother Australia* and *Australian Idol*, which helped the network achieve strong ratings. After facing further financial difficulties, the company was acquired by the U.S. media giant CBS Corporation (now Paramount) in 2017.

The network operates a multi-platform business model centered on providing content to a younger demographic, specifically viewers under 55. Revenue is primarily generated from advertising on its free-to-air channels and digital platforms. Network Ten runs several channels, including the main Channel 10, and multi-channels such as 10 Peach (targeting 16-39s) and 10 Bold. Recognizing the shift in viewing habits, the company has expanded its digital presence significantly. Its core digital asset is 10 Play, a free catch-up TV and streaming service that launched in 2013. In 2023, Network Ten integrated Pluto TV's Free Ad-supported Streaming Television (FAST) channels into 10 Play, adding over 50 curated channels to its offering. This ecosystem is complemented by the subscription video-on-demand service, Paramount+, which serves as a platform for premium and exclusive content, including A-League football matches and other live sports.
