The company's solutions were designed to provide enterprise-level security, featuring SSL VPN technology for secure access to client/server, legacy, and web applications. The NSP appliance included features like a firewall, network address translation, and support for numerous authentication methods such as NT Domain, Active Directory, LDAP, and RADIUS. A key aspect of Netilla's business model was providing a platform-based approach to secure application access.

In December 2004, Netilla Networks merged with the Irish security company AEP Systems in a deal that combined two complementary product ranges to offer a full suite of secure networking systems based on IPSec and SSL encryption. The newly formed entity was named AEP Networks, with Netilla's CEO, Reggie Best, becoming the executive vice-president of Marketing and the Secure Application Access business unit. The merger was intended to increase market penetration by cross-selling to a combined customer base of over 1,200 enterprises. Following the merger, AEP Networks continued to develop the Netilla product line, releasing the AEP Netilla Secure Gateway Appliance-M for Microsoft Outlook Web Access in 2005. AEP Networks was later acquired by Ultra Electronics in 2011, and the Netilla product line was subsequently acquired by Northbridge Secure in 2014, which enhanced and rebranded it as NetConnect.
