NetGain Technologies
A Lexington, Ky-based provider of IT-as-a-service to healthcare providers and other highly regulated industries
About NetGain Technologies
In 1984, an unconventional entrepreneur, Don Jacobson, decided to switch careers. Leaving his post as a university professor and his family's dairy farm, he opened a Valcom computer franchise in Lexington, Kentucky. The business began as a retail store, but the playbook started to shift when his sons, Mark and Jim Jacobson, bought the company from their father in 1995. The Jacobson brothers pivoted the company, which was eventually renamed NetGain Technologies, from a business-to-consumer model to a business-to-business IT solutions provider. This move set the stage for decades of growth. The company transitioned into a Managed Services Provider (MSP) in 2001 and began a series of acquisitions to expand its footprint across the Ohio Valley and the Southeast. A significant event in the company's timeline occurred in December 2018, when NetGain received a major investment from Evergreen Services Group, a holding company that acquires and supports MSPs for long-term growth. This partnership provided the capital for further expansion. Following the investment, the Jacobson brothers retired, and new leadership stepped in to steer the company. In 2023, NetGain joined Lyra Technology Group, continuing its journey under a new family of technology service businesses. Today, what started as a single computer store has become a multi-state IT powerhouse, recognized for its managed security and IT services.
