Nature's Toolbox (NTx), founded in 2016 by Dr. Alex Koglin and Michael Humbert, is a biomanufacturing firm aiming to modernize the production of critical medicines. The company’s genesis is tied to Dr. Koglin's background in biophysical chemistry and his work as an Oppenheimer Fellow at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), where he recognized the inefficiencies in conventional pharmaceutical manufacturing. Inspired by nature's efficiency, the company was named to reflect its mission of using biological building blocks to create new solutions. NTx began its journey at Santa Fe Community College and has since expanded to a substantial facility in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, with recent plans to build another facility in Plano, Texas.

NTx operates in the life sciences sector, providing advanced biomanufacturing solutions to pharmaceutical companies, biotech firms, research institutions, and government entities. Its business model centers on the commercialization of its proprietary cell-free manufacturing platforms, which are sold as benchtop systems along with recurring revenue from proprietary reagents and single-use consumables. This model is designed to significantly lower the cost and time associated with developing and producing biologics. The company's core offerings are the NTxscribe® and NTxpress® platforms, which enable the rapid, scalable, and decentralized production of mRNA and proteins. NTxscribe® is a continuous-flow system for manufacturing high-integrity mRNA, including self-amplifying RNA (saRNA), in a compact, automated benchtop device. This system bypasses the complexities of traditional cell-based methods, allowing users to produce milligrams of RNA in hours, accelerating research and development for vaccines and therapeutics. The NTxpress® platform is a fully recombinant cell-free system for producing proteins without the limitations of cell-based expression. These technologies offer a substantial reduction in facility footprint and capital investment, aiming to democratize access to medicine production, from personalized cancer therapies to pandemic-response vaccines.
