N2N Commerce
SaaS-based platform that delivers on-demand e-commerce software to multichannel retailers
About N2N Commerce
N2N Commerce, founded in 2006 by Ruben Pinchanski, developed an on-demand, cross-channel e-commerce software platform tailored for multi-channel retailers. The company's core offering was a comprehensive software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform that integrated e-commerce, contact center operations, content management, personalization tools, and order management into a single solution. This was designed to help large retailers synchronize their sales and content across both online and physical stores.
The business operated on a B2B model, focusing exclusively on the needs of large retail enterprises by providing a scalable and reliable direct-to-consumer platform. A significant milestone for the company was securing Victoria's Secret Direct as its first major client, which planned to power its $1.4 billion direct-to-consumer business using the N2N platform starting in the second half of 2007. To enhance its platform's capabilities, N2N Commerce formed a 'Platform Innovation Ecosystem,' partnering with technology companies like Sterling Commerce for advanced order management.
In January 2008, N2N Commerce raised $30 million in a private equity round from investors including General Catalyst and Limited Brands (parent company of Bath & Body Works). However, the company faced significant challenges and was ultimately acquired by Salesforce Commerce Cloud (formerly Demandware) on May 1, 2008. Following the acquisition, an involuntary petition for liquidation under Chapter 7 bankruptcy was filed against N2N Commerce, Inc. in July 2009 and was approved by the court in October 2009, leading to the company becoming defunct.
