MT Educare
A coaching and e-learning platform for SSC, science, commerce, medical, engineering and MBA entrance exams
About MT Educare
In 1988, a young teacher named Mahesh Shetty started a small coaching center in Mumbai with a simple mission: to revolutionize education. This venture, initially known as Mahesh Tutorials, began by teaching mathematics to high school students and quickly became a household name in the local coaching scene. The company, formally incorporated as MT Educare in 2006, embarked on a path of steady expansion. A key moment arrived in 2007 when it secured its first round of funding from U.S.-based private equity investor Helix Investments, enabling further growth across India. By 2011, MT Educare had expanded its offerings to include coaching for science and commerce streams, as well as competitive entrance exams for engineering, medical, and business schools. This growth phase included strategic acquisitions, such as Chitale's Personalised Learning, to enter new segments. A major turning point for the company came in March 2012, when MT Educare launched its Initial Public Offering (IPO) on the Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange. The IPO, which opened on March 27, 2012, aimed to raise capital for continued expansion. The company's journey took another significant turn in February 2018. Zee Learn, the education arm of the Essel Group, announced it would acquire a controlling stake in MT Educare for approximately ₹200 crore. This acquisition integrated MT Educare's extensive network and brands like Mahesh Tutorials and Robomate into Zee Learn's broader educational ecosystem, marking a new chapter for the company founded in a single classroom.
