Moovweb’s cloud-based platform delivers experiences optimized for any device
About Moovweb
Moovweb was established in 2009 by co-founders Ajay Kapur and Ishan Anand, positioning itself as a key player in the mobile commerce and web performance market from its headquarters in San Francisco. Kapur, who served as CEO, brought a rich background to the venture, with an MBA from Stanford and bachelor's degrees in physics and computer science from UC Berkeley, complemented by prior experience in private equity at Goldman Sachs and early ventures into mobile app development. Anand, the CTO, also came from an entrepreneurial technology background with deep experience in software engineering and product management.
The company initially focused on providing a cloud-based platform that transformed traditional desktop websites into mobile-optimized experiences. Its core service allowed businesses, particularly in retail and e-commerce, to deliver device-specific and responsive mobile sites without needing to completely overhaul their existing backend infrastructure. The business model was primarily SaaS-based, with pricing determined by page view volume and the number of optimized endpoints. Moovweb catered to a diverse client base that included major brands like Macy's, AIG, Kaiser, and 1-800-FLOWERS.COM.
Over time, Moovweb evolved its product offerings, culminating in the Moovweb XDN (Experience Delivery Network). This platform was engineered to deliver sub-second page loads for dynamic, high-traffic websites, positioning itself as an infrastructure for the Jamstack architecture. The XDN provided a comprehensive toolkit for developers to build, deploy, monitor, and run headless frontends, significantly improving web performance and developer productivity. In April 2021, the company rebranded to Layer0 to better reflect its focus on providing infrastructure for dynamic website frontends. This strategic shift led to its acquisition by Limelight Networks in September 2021 for approximately $55 million in cash and stock. The acquisition integrated Layer0's application acceleration and developer workflow tools with Limelight's global edge network, and Limelight subsequently rebranded to Edgio.
