Rapid lateral flow diagnostic technology development services MoreLess
Mologic, founded in 2003 by Professor Paul Davis and Mark Davis, is a developer of rapid diagnostic technologies. Paul Davis is noted for being an originator of the Clearblue pregnancy test, the first commercial application of lateral flow technology. The company leverages this expertise to provide contract research and development services, taking diagnostic concepts from initial feasibility and prototyping through to manufacturing.
In July 2021, Mologic was acquired by Global Access Health (GAH), a consortium of philanthropic funds and investors led by the Soros Economic Development Fund (SEDF) with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, in a deal of at least $41 million. This transaction transitioned Mologic into a social enterprise, allowing all profits to be reinvested into global health initiatives, particularly for underserved populations. Following the acquisition, Mologic's expertise was combined with its sister company, Global Access Diagnostics (GAD), under the brand Global Access Diagnostics (GADx). GADx operates as the first portfolio company of GAH.
The company's business model is twofold. It operates as a contract research organization, developing diagnostic products for clients and partners. It also develops its own portfolio of tests for epidemics and neglected tropical diseases like dengue, bilharzia, and river blindness, as well as for conditions in women's health and COPD. Revenue from commercial activities is used to fund the development of affordable diagnostics for low- and middle-income countries. The company has facilities in Bedfordshire, UK, and a US subsidiary in Maine.
