About Mogreet

Mogreet operated as a mobile marketing company, providing a platform for delivering rich media content to mobile devices through MMS and SMS messaging. Founded in 2006 by James Citron, the Venice, California-based firm initially aimed to deliver video greeting cards but pivoted to serve the business-to-business marketing sector. Citron, a digital entrepreneur with a background in investment banking at Deutsche Bank Securities and previous ventures in the mobile and social networking spaces, guided the company as its CEO. His experience included launching a mobile phone personalization business with Motorola and founding an early social network, Varsity Planet, while at Princeton University.

The company's core offering was a cloud-based communications platform that enabled businesses to engage with consumers using video, photos, audio, and text. Mogreet's technology handled on-demand multimedia ingestion, video transcoding, storage, and streaming to ensure content was adapted for a wide array of mobile devices. This platform allowed marketers to send multimedia messages to opted-in contact lists or to trigger messages based on a consumer's text to a shortcode. The client roster included notable brands and media companies such as Paramount, Reebok, Fox, Cox Media Group, and Gamefly. To broaden its market reach, Mogreet launched Mogreet Express in March 2013, a self-service SaaS platform designed for small and medium-sized businesses to create and manage their own text and multimedia marketing campaigns.

Throughout its operation, Mogreet secured approximately $14 million in funding over several rounds from investors including Black Diamond Ventures, Ascend Venture Group, and Draper Fisher Jurvetson Frontier. In May 2013, Mogreet was acquired by Payvia, a mobile payments company, for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition was a strategic move by Payvia to create an integrated platform combining mobile marketing with direct carrier billing, aiming to streamline the path from consumer engagement to transaction. The entire Mogreet team, including CEO James Citron who became Payvia's Chief Marketing Officer, transitioned to the new parent company. The company went defunct in 2016.
