The company was founded by CEO Liad Elidan and CTO Professor Stephen Barrett. Their collaboration began at Trinity College Dublin, where Barrett was a professor of computer science and Elidan was a student. This academic partnership evolved into a multi-year research effort focused on measuring software engineering productivity, which laid the technical groundwork for Milestone's analysis engine. Elidan previously gained experience as a developer, researcher, and data scientist at companies including Taboola. Barrett is an expert in software development analysis and lifecycle patterns. Recognizing that enterprises were adopting AI coding tools without clear methods to measure their value, the founders launched Milestone to address this gap. In November 2025, the company announced a $10 million seed funding round led by Heavybit and Hanaco Ventures, with participation from Atlassian Ventures and prominent angel investors. The funding is intended to expand the platform's capabilities and accelerate enterprise adoption.
