Middle Peak Medical, founded in 2011 by Dr. Michael D. Lesh and Alex Khairkhahan, was a development-stage medical device company that focused on treatments for mitral valve disease. The company was established to commercialize a novel technology intended to address unmet needs in the treatment of mitral valve regurgitation, the most common form of heart valve disease. The developed device had applications in both minimally invasive cardiac surgery and catheter-based percutaneous interventions. Its primary product was a minimally invasive implant designed to restore mitral valve competence by creating a new posterior surface for the anterior leaflet to seal against.

The company's R&D operations were based in Palo Alto, California, with clinical and regulatory operations established in Europe. Middle Peak Medical secured significant funding to advance its technology, raising a total of $11.5 million over three rounds. A Series A financing round in 2013, co-led by Wellington Partners and Seventure Partners, with participation from High-Tech Gründerfonds, raised $8.5 million. An additional $3 million was raised in a second closing of the Series A round, bringing in investors like BioMedInvest II LP and Edwards Lifesciences. In February 2017, the Swiss medtech company Symetis acquired Middle Peak Medical for an undisclosed amount, marking Symetis's strategic expansion into structural heart therapies beyond the aortic valve space.
