About Mia.com

Mia.com, legally known as Huawang Online Trade, was a Chinese e-commerce company specializing in the cross-border retail of mother and baby products. The company was founded in 2011 by Liu Nan, a former management trainee at Dow Chemicals who identified a market opportunity as a stay-at-home mom. The platform officially went online in 2014, establishing itself as one of the early entrants in China's market for imported maternity and infant goods.

The business operated on a B2C model, primarily selling middle to high-end imported products directly to consumers. Its product range was extensive, including toys, nutrition formula, clothing, diapers, and other items for babies, toddlers, and mothers. Mia.com distinguished itself from larger, more generalized e-commerce platforms by focusing on quality and sourcing products directly from brands to cut out middlemen, a strategy that allowed it to offer competitive pricing. The company employed a mix of retail, flash sales, and special offers to drive sales and foster customer loyalty.

Mia.com experienced rapid growth and significant investor interest, raising a total of over $332 million across several funding rounds. Notable investors included Sequoia Capital, Baidu, Zhen Fund, and H Capital. At its peak, the company achieved a valuation of approximately $1 billion. By December 2018, it had served over 50 million users. However, facing intense competition from comprehensive e-commerce giants and the rise of live-streaming e-commerce, alongside a declining birthrate in China, the company's fortunes shifted. After closing all its physical stores in late 2020, Mia.com announced the termination of its mobile application in September 2022, citing changes in users' shopping habits, marking the end of its primary operations.
