About MedSolutions

MedSolutions, Inc. operated as a medical benefits management company, providing services to control the costs and improve the quality of healthcare for payors. Founded in 1992 and based in Franklin, Tennessee, the firm initially started as an owner and operator of diagnostic imaging centers. In 1997, the company underwent a strategic pivot, selling its imaging centers to concentrate exclusively on managing the costs associated with medical imaging, effectively pioneering the radiology benefits management (RBM) industry.

The company's business model was centered on providing intelligent cost management solutions to the managed care industry, including commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid payors. MedSolutions established contracts to manage the healthcare services for millions of individuals across the United States. Its core service involved utilization management, which aimed to capture savings, reduce treatment costs, and ensure diagnostic accuracy for clients. This was achieved by developing programs and comprehensive medical guidelines to support physicians in the appropriate and effective use of health care services, particularly in high-cost areas like radiology and oncology.

A significant milestone in the company's history was the merger with CareCore National in December 2014. This merger combined two complementary businesses to create a broader range of solutions in specialty benefits management. Following the merger, the unified entity rebranded as eviCore healthcare in June 2015. The new company, headquartered in Bluffton, South Carolina, expanded its services to include cardiology, musculoskeletal and pain management, post-acute care, and sleep therapy, among others. Subsequently, eviCore was acquired by Express Scripts in 2017 for $3.6 billion and later became part of Cigna through its Evernorth subsidiary after Cigna acquired Express Scripts in 2018.
