About MediGain

Founded in 2004 and based in Plano, Texas, MediGain established itself as a full-service revenue cycle management (RCM) and healthcare analytics company. The firm's business model centered on delivering comprehensive back-office financial services to a diverse client base across the United States, including physician groups, hospitals, provider networks, and ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs). MediGain's revenue was generated by providing a suite of services designed to optimize financial performance for healthcare providers. These services included medical billing, collections, reimbursement, physician credentialing, and managing claim denials.

A key differentiator for the company was its proprietary business intelligence and predictive analytics platform, MediGain Insights. This cloud-based tool offered clients transparent, real-time access to data and metrics, helping them manage the business aspects of their practices and forecast future cash flows. Unlike competitors who were often limited to a single practice management system, MediGain was designed to work with eight leading platforms, giving it broader market access. This technological flexibility allowed the company to function as virtual employees within their clients' offices, providing a high degree of transparency into the revenue cycle.

The company's history is marked by significant growth, both organically and through a series of strategic acquisitions. Between 2012 and 2014, MediGain acquired several companies, including MedBE, ASC Billing Specialist, and Millennium Practice Management Associates, to expand its national footprint and service capabilities, particularly in the ASC sector. This expansion was fueled by substantial funding, including a notable $38 million investment from Prudential Capital Group in October 2014. The leadership team, which at times included CEO Greg Hackney and Chairman Dinesh Butani, guided the company through this period of rapid growth. Hackney, a seasoned entrepreneur, had previously founded Expresiv Technologies, which was later acquired by 3M. In October 2016, the assets of MediGain, including its customer accounts and intellectual property, were acquired by MTBC, now known as CareCloud.
