About Mavrx

Mavrx was a San Francisco-based agricultural technology company founded in 2012 by Max Bruner, Alexey Rostapshov, and Yuan Gao. The company developed an imagery-based spatial analytics platform that used a network of aircraft, satellites, and UAVs to provide farmers and agricultural service providers with actionable agronomic information. Mavrx's platform combined computer vision and machine learning to analyze crop and soil conditions, enabling growers to increase yields and lower costs.

The core of Mavrx's service was delivering on-demand, ultra-high-resolution (UHR) imagery captured from a fleet of piloted aircraft, which offered more detail than satellite data. This allowed for the identification of specific in-field issues, with images and crop performance analysis delivered to users through a web and mobile app within 24 to 72 hours of a flight. The platform supported clients such as farmers, agricultural service providers, and insurance companies. In early 2018, Mavrx made its satellite-based services, including crop health tracking and a scouting app, available for free to expand its user base, while premium aerial imaging remained a paid service.

The company raised a total of $12.4 million over two funding rounds, including a Series A round led by Eclipse Ventures. In May 2018, the assets of Mavrx were acquired by Taranis, an Israeli agricultural intelligence company. The acquisition integrated Mavrx's UHR imagery and operational teams into Taranis's platform, creating a more comprehensive aerial imagery and precision agriculture service.
