About Marmalade Technologies

Marmalade Game Studio is a developer and publisher specializing in digital adaptations of classic board games for mobile, PC, and console platforms. The company, with offices in London, Lisbon, and Bucharest, focuses on creating high-quality, social gaming experiences that connect players. Its portfolio includes officially licensed digital versions of iconic games such as Monopoly, Cluedo (Clue), The Game of Life, Battleship, and Ticket to Ride, developed in partnership with major licensors like Hasbro. The business model centers on producing premium games, which means they are offered without ads or other interruptions to gameplay.

The current iteration of the company emerged in 2016 following a pivot from its previous business as Marmalade Technologies, which created a cross-platform software development kit (SDK). The leadership team, including co-CEOs Michael Willis and Cristina Mereuta, guided the company through this transition, establishing it as an independent developer and publisher. Willis, with a 24-year history in the games industry, including a significant tenure at Electronic Arts working on franchises like Harry Potter and The Sims, became CEO in 2016. Mereuta, who previously worked as a producer on the FIFA franchise at EA, joined in 2014 and became co-CEO alongside Willis in 2016. In 2021, the management team completed a buyout supported by a multi-million-pound investment from private equity firm LDC to fund further growth and the development of new titles.

Marmalade Game Studio serves a global audience of casual gamers and families, making its titles available on platforms like the App Store, Google Play, Steam, and Nintendo Switch. The company has experienced significant revenue growth, more than doubling its revenues in the three years leading up to its 2021 private equity investment. The studio's focus is on adapting the core experience of physical board games to the digital format while adding new features and maintaining high production quality.
