The story begins not with a single startup, but with the union of several established German IT service firms, including SteinhilberSchwehr, founded by Karl-Heinz Eberle, and ASCAD. These companies formed the ComputerKomplett group, focusing on providing digital solutions for medium-sized businesses, specializing in product lifecycle management (PLM) and enterprise resource planning (ERP). They established themselves as key partners for major technology providers like Siemens, PTC, and HP, helping manufacturing and engineering clients digitize their processes. A significant turning point came in December 2011, when the investment firm Arcadia Beteiligungen acquired ComputerKomplett from its founding families, signaling a new phase of growth and consolidation. This was followed by another ownership change in 2018 to Findos Investor. Then, in 2020, the company underwent a major rebranding, officially becoming MAIT—a name derived from "mate," "AI," and "IT." This change unified its subsidiaries, like ComputerKomplett ASCAD GmbH and ComputerKomplett SteinhilberSchwehr GmbH, under a single brand to better reflect its forward-looking strategy. The journey continued in August 2021, when the British investment group 3i acquired MAIT. This acquisition aimed to accelerate MAIT's growth, particularly through further strategic mergers and acquisitions, building on its strong foundation in the German-speaking DACH region.
